Uganda hosts more than 1.6 million refugees, making it one of the largest refugee-hosting countries in the world. Despite Uganda’s welcoming and progressive refugee policies, refugees here face significant challenges such as limited economic opportunities, inadequate access to healthcare, poor living conditions, and security concerns.
At SEE Impact, in a powerful partnership with Oxfam, Uganda Refugee Disaster Management Committee (URDMC), and with funding support through UN Women from the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala, we are committed to making a difference. Together, we are launching a two-year project in South West Uganda called Leadership, Empowerment, Access, and Protection (LEAP II). Our shared goal is to ensure that women and girls in refugee and host communities live safely, participate actively, and benefit fully from humanitarian aid and recovery efforts.
Here's what we aim to achieve with LEAP II:
Plant 20,000 trees* within the refugee community to promote environmental sustainability.
Support 3,150 women* through Village Savings and Loan Associations to enhance financial independence.
Assist 2,250 women* in developing Micro and Small Enterprises to boost local economies.
Train 1,050 women* in climate-smart agriculture practices for sustainable food production.
Enable 495 women* to access clean energy solutions.
Educate 975 men and women* on gender action learning systems (GALS) to foster equality and empowerment.
Together, we are creating opportunities and building resilience in refugee communities. Stay tuned for updates on our journey to make a lasting impact!
